Analyzing Willy Wonka

Willy Wonka

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; a classic for a number of reasons.  For me, the largest among those reasons (that isn’t purely aesthetic anyway) is the character of Willy Wonka himself.

Most people get the gist of Wonka’s character; quirky, scheming, and manipulative.  In my view however, there are other aspects of Wonka’s characterization that are far more subtle and interesting.

So, here’s that.

A Short Look At: Kyle deCamp and Joshua Thorson’s ‘Urban Renewal’

To preface, this is exactly what it says on the tin; these ‘short looks’ will serve as reviews for the shorter pieces of work I like at.  This is bound to include mainly performance art and short films for the time being, since odds are I’ll be seeing a few of those in the near future.

Art, or, Why the Still Image is Inherently Confusing

I am probably the last person you should ask about Art.

Okay, that’s exaggerating a bit.  Maybe I should start over.

After all, art comes in many different forms.  If you were to point me at a film, or a book, or a song, I could undoubtedly tell you in at least some amount of detail why it works as a piece of expressionism.  I could present and dissect its flaws and merits, point out its objective feats as well as analyze how it works subjectively and why.  The one art form for which this seems incredibly difficult, however, is the one that is probably what every one of you reading this associates most with the term “art”.  I am of course referring to paintings and sculptures.
